Flipgrid: Empower Every Voice πͺπ»π’
Hey there!
I hope you are feeling great! Today, I want to talk about a very nice online tool which is Flipgird.
Fipgrid is essentially a social learning platform that allows you to interact with your peers or your students through videos. It allows the students to create videos in response to your questions. Flipgrid is free for educators it's a great way for us to get our students engaged in class discussion by sending short videos.
I think it can get boring for teachers who work online to reading all these writings from their students over and over again. So, this is just a different and fun way to get the students to respond, they're also going to be learning some of the rules of social discussion which is really important as well.
You can get started with Flipgrid by creating an educator account, after you've done that you can log in and begin by creating a topic. Topic is a place where your students are going to answer some questions for you, they're going to answer a question by responding with a video. You can also put your topics into groups based on what the topics are. There are many ways that you can share your topic.
You can automatically copy the link and share it or you can use the QR code that students can scan through their mobile phones, you can also copy the embed code and put it on your website and you can share it to Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom.
Students can respond to your questions by using the app on their smartphone or use their computer to upload a previously recorded video. The videos can be as short as 15 seconds or as long as five minutes (you can set a maximum recording duration). Also, you can also allow your students to record responses to their classmate’s response.
I think Flipgrid is a pretty customizable tool and teachers can create different kinds of activities for their students like class intros/icebreakers, class announcements, discussion boards, reading reflections, brainstorming, practice or review topics, assessing speaking skills, and more!
I have a class on Flipgrid too! And I posted a simple icebreaker activity for students. If you want to check it out, you can use my class code: blgr1571
