Learning Management System + Moodle & Blackboard πŸ‘©πŸ»‍πŸ«πŸŽ“

Hello there! In today's blog post, I would like to talk about LMS (Learning Management System) and go through some example tools that will help you have more idea about this concept.

There are four types of e-learning systems: the Learning Management System (LMS), Learning Content Management System (LCMS), Learning Design System (LDS), and Learning Support System (LSS).  A learning management system, (LMS) can be explained as a software application that is designed specifically to create, distribute, and manage the delivery of educational content.

  • Learning: A single repository for all your learning material, which learners can access 24×7.
  • Management: An organized system of managing training processes for eLearning, virtual, and in-person sessions.
  • System: To automate tasks such as tracking and reporting learner activities, processing stats, generating reports, grading assessments, creating and awarding certificates, and more.

"In recent years, the need for learning management systems to deliver the courses online becomes a significant issue and the market of developing e-learning platforms has seen a great competition between companies. A lot of e-learning platform products are found as: Blackboard, Moodle, FirstClass, Interact, and Sakai. Some institutes develop their own LMS, others adopt an open-source LMS or bought a commercial one."
I think the advantages of LMS are that it keeps the e-learning materials organized and accessible, it also helps track and assess students' work and progress. It promotes multimedia learning by providing visual videos, images, audio, and texts.

Now I want to talk about Moodle which is one of the most popular LMS tools. The letters of Moodle stand for "modular object-oriented dynamic learning environment". Simply put, Moodle is an online open-source learning platform that allows educators to interact with students outside the classroom and manage a course. It provides a type of virtual learning environment for educators and students all around the world.
Teachers can use Moodle to interact with their students, setting assignments, giving homework, and much more! I think Moodle is a flexible and easy-to-modify platform for educators or even large learning institutions.

And the other learning management system that I would like to give some info about is "Blackboard". The main difference between Moodle and Blackboard is that Blackboard is not a freemium platform like Moodle and actually it is a proprietary software, so you have to pay for licenses that you need to get. I think for that reason it can be more suitable for large institutions with a variety of resources.
